What usually goes wrong

Some HD204UI and HD155UI drives had a firmware fault that could corrupt data being written at the same moment the computer asked the drive for its details. If files went bad on one of these, we can usually still recover the rest.

If your HD204UI is clicking, beeping or not spinning, switch it off. Every restart can damage the platters further. Don’t open it and don’t run recovery software on it.

How we recover the HD204UI

We use PC-3000 systems from ACE Lab, the professional standard for data recovery labs. PC-3000 lets us repair a drive’s firmware through its service area, read damaged drives one head at a time, and copy weak drives slowly and safely without stressing them. Physical repairs such as replacing read/write heads are done in our clean room in central London, so the drive never leaves our lab.

We always work on a copy of the drive, never the original, and you get a list of recovered files to check before you pay for the recovery.
