NAS recovery: Synology, QNAP, WD and more

A NAS often holds the only copy of a family’s photos or a small firm’s shared files. When it stops booting, loses a volume or reports “crashed”, we recover the data straight from the disks, without needing the box itself to work.

Common NAS problems we fix

  • Volume “crashed”, “degraded” or “not found”
  • NAS won’t boot, beeps, or the status light flashes
  • Disk replaced and the rebuild failed part-way
  • Shared folders deleted, or the NAS was reset to factory settings
  • Btrfs or ext4 volume won’t mount after a power cut
  • Files encrypted by ransomware on the NAS

Please don’t

Initialise the NAS, re-create the volume, or install the disks in a new unit and let it set them up. Those steps write to the disks and can destroy the original layout. Power it down and send us the disks in a padded box, each one labelled with its bay number.
