What usually goes wrong
Most My Passport and many Elements drives have the USB port built onto the drive itself; there is no SATA connector to plug into a computer. Many also encrypt everything in hardware, even without a password. If the USB port or board is damaged, the original board's encryption has to be used to read the data, which we handle with PC-3000.
If your WD30NMVW is clicking, beeping or not spinning, switch it off. Every restart can damage the platters further. Don’t open it and don’t run recovery software on it.
How we recover the WD30NMVW
We use PC-3000 systems from ACE Lab, the professional standard for data recovery labs. PC-3000 lets us repair a drive’s firmware through its service area, read damaged drives one head at a time, and copy weak drives slowly and safely without stressing them. Physical repairs such as replacing read/write heads are done in our clean room in central London, so the drive never leaves our lab.
We always work on a copy of the drive, never the original, and you get a list of recovered files to check before you pay for the recovery.
